Rigging for winter perch on the canal

A simple running leger and a lively worm is still the most reliable way to find canal perch in cold water.

Perch on the Tennant Canal shoal up tight in cold water, often close to moored boats, reed beds or bridge holes where there is some cover and slightly deeper water.

A simple running leger with a size 8 hook and a lively dendrobaena worm, cast tight to the feature and left to sit, is still the most reliable way to find them.

Fish it slow, move swims every twenty minutes or so if nothing shows, and always use a size 8 or larger hook — small perch have a habit of swallowing a smaller hook.
